2020年の勉強会で紹介した「蔵造り」の英語表現です。
1893年の大火の際に耐火建築である蔵造りの家が焼失を免れたことから、その後一番街には蔵造りの建物が立ち並ぶようになりました。
なぜ川越にはこんなに蔵造りがたくさんあるの？と外国の方に聞かれたらこんな風に説明できるといいですね。
In 1893, this area nearly burned down in a massive fire.
However, the structures which had been built in Kurazukuri style were not damaged by the fire.
Kurazukuri style is a traditional method of construction that delivers outstanding fireproofing due to the presence of thick soil walls.
After the disaster, the residents actively adopted the Kurazukuri style for their buildings.
They mimicked the appearance of the Kurazukuri style buildings in Nihonbashi, which was one of the most prosperous commercial towns during that time.
Thus, Kawagoe became a town having many beautiful historical buildings.
The scenery has been preserved by the efforts of local residents.
